Magnetic Particle Testing Training Courses

What is Magnetic Particle Testing?

Magnetic Particle Testing is used for the detection of surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials such as iron, nickel, cobalt, and some of their alloys. It can be primarily used for crack detection. This method is applicable to all metals which can be strongly magnetised – ferritic steels and irons, but not generally austenitic steels.

A magnetic field is introduced into a specimen to be tested, then fine particles of ferromagnetic powder, or ferromagnetic particles, are applied to the area being tested. any discontinuity in the test area which cuts across the magnetic field creates a "leakage field". This has a north and south pole on either side of it and therefore attracts the particles in great numbers.

Courses available

IMechE Engineering Training Solutions offer Magnetic Particle Testing NDT training courses in Levels 1, 2 and 3 in a range of central and employer specific internationally recognised standards such as PCN (BS EN ISO 9712), SNT-TC-1A, EN4179 and NAS410.

We are also able to offer refresher training to those students that are looking to re-certify, providing training on any theory or practical areas that may need to be revisited before sitting their examination.

Courses are delivered at the Engineering Training Centre in Sheffield, UK but can also be completed on-site at an organisation's premises or third party location depending on each individual circumstance.
